Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Better by the dozen: Owls paste Tougaloo, 12-0

COLUMBUS, Miss. – It is not uncommon for sports teams to provide fans with a fireworks show at their final regular season contest. While the Mississippi University for Women women's soccer team did not feature any aerial pyrotechnics in its 2022 regular season finale, there were explosions aplenty on the pitch in the Owls 12-0 shellacking of Tougaloo College at the Lowndes County Soccer Complex.

The offensive outburst ranked second among MUW single match records for goals (12), assists (7) and points (31).

Some of the other gaudy numbers posted by The W included a 21-4 advantage in total shots, 15-1 on goal. Every available player – 25 in all - saw ample minutes, with no less than 10 different Owls scoring goals. As a team, The W had a .571 shooting percentage and a .800 shots-on-goal average for the evening, resulting in the Owls' fourth shutout of the season.

Lizzie Truelock and Mariah Beckom each had a pair of goals to lead The W. Truelock also had an assist to her credit, giving her a team-high five points.

Truelock shared high point honors with Molly Moore who got her five points via a goal and three assists. Her three assists tied The W's single-match record (with Sarah Havens).

MUW also got single goals from Allyon Goza, Seline Decoteau, Lindsey Moyle, Becca Gregory, Mickie Palfreman, Kimi Norway, and Shadaria Fairley. Gregory and Moyle each banked an assist with their goals.

Millie Mask had an assist from her defender position, as well.

The W starting goalkeeper Olivia Clark had her team's lone assist. Sarah Robinson played the final four minutes of the shared shutout.

The Owls must now wait until next Tuesday (Nov. 1) to see if they receive a bid to the USCAA championships.

In the men's preliminary game, The W took a forfeit win from Tougaloo, which could only field six healthy players.
