Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Chamberlain & Langford both reach 20 points, but Owls fall at Fontbonne

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Mississippi University for Women women's basketball may have found something in common with the Washington Commanders on Sunday, in its 87-58 road loss at Fontbonne University. While the NFL team would like to have a quarterback, the Owls would like to just have a quarter back.

That's because, other than a second quarter drought in which it produced just four points (and the hosts added 20), The W squad stood toe-to-toe versus the Griffins in its third-consecutive contest versus a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) team.

MG Chamberlain and Conley Langford scored 21 and 20 points respectively, to pace the Owls' offense. Chamberlain notched her second game with 20-plus point in the last three outings, connecting on 10-of-16 from the field. She also snared six rebounds.

Langford was particularly deadly from downtown, making 6-of-8 from beyond the arc for her third 20-point game of the season. Langford added five boards to her game ledger sheet, as well.

Ashley Cooper chipped in eight points.

Freshman Jas Patrick had a nice all-around effort, contributing in all phases. Patrick scored seven points and had a team-leading seven rebounds. The guard also topped MUW with five assists and four steals.

Reagan Sonnier's two points rounded out the Owls' scorers. Sonnier also pulled down five rebounds.

The Griffins were able to create distance from the Owls by taking advantage of the visitor's turnovers and by out-rebounding MUW, 52-33. The W's 23 miscues were converted into 24 points, while Fontbonne had 33 second-chance points (with 27 of its rebounds coming on the offensive glass).

The W will next be in action at home versus Birmingham-Southern College on Tuesday (Dec. 13) at 2 p.m. in Pohl Gym.
