COLUMBUS, Miss. – It was a case of good news/bad news for the Mississippi University for Women women's basketball team in its 76-49 loss at the hands of Pensacola Christian College at Pohl Gym. The good news was that Head Coach
Drew Johnson's squad saw a couple players return to the fold, with the bad news being The W (0-5) is still without four of its 11 roster players due to injury and illness.
The Eagles (5-3), conversely, had 10 of 12 players seeing action score in the game.
The W was led by USCAA All-American
MG Chamberlain, who returned after suffering an injury in the season opener and missing the subsequent three games. Chamberlain hit 7-of-15 from the floor on her way to a team-best 18 points. She also hauled in six rebounds.
Conley Langford had a game of eight points and a game-leading 11 rebounds.
Becca Owens had seven, while
Ashley Cooper and
Reagan Sonnier each had six points. Sonnier had five rebounds and Owens added two caroms.
Jas Patrick was held to a season low of four points, but dished off three assists. She ad three boards.
Hannah Duran, making her first appearance since her volleyball season ended, had seven rebounds. The two-sport standout also had two assists.
PCC was able to pull away from the Owls by converting MUW's 23 turnovers into 27 points. Likewise, a 56-38 advantage on the glass allowed the visitors to gain a 28-to-2 cushion in second-chance points.
