JACKSON, Miss. - The W Baseball lost in its second game of 2022 at the Millsaps Classic, 15-4, at the hands of Centenary College. The setback dropped the Owls to 0-2 on the season.
MUW will play its third game of the weekend tourney on Sunday at 11 a.m.
The W took an early 1-0 lead when, with one out,
Austin Telano drew a walk and took second on a wild pitch. Then with two down,
Payton Springfield (1-4) slapped a single to right that drove in Telano.
Centenary answered with a run in the top of the second and took the lead for good in the fourth by plating a pair of runs.
In the bottom of the fifth,
Blaize Gann (1-4) had a leadoff triple and scored on Telano's groundout the short.
Joel Estabrook (1-4), who singled in the frame, eventually scored on a fielding error by the Gents.
Owls' right-fielder
Blake Estabrook led the team by going 2-for-3. He was also hit by a pitch.
Tanner Evans (1-3) and
Cole Adams (1-1) had the Owls' other hits in the contest.
The W starter
Avery Anderson (0-1) absorbed the loss. Anderson went 5.0 innings and was charged with six runs, just three of which were earned.
