COLUMBUS, Miss. - A strong offensive attack proved too much for the Mississippi University for Women volleyball team, dropping a 3-0 decision to Bethel University (Tenn.) at Pohl Gym. The Owls ()6-6) lost to the Wildcats (10-4) by set scores of 25-17, 25-11, 25-11.
MUW was out-hit in the match by a .308-to-.024 percentage. Bethel knocked down 41 kills, while The W managed 14. The visitors also held more aces than did the Owls, 11-3.
Maggie Griggs and
Jasmine Kelly each booked four kills to top the team. Kelly hit .500 for her six attacks, while Griggs hit .214.
Kelly was strong up front, as well, with three solo blocks (all of her team's blocks in the match).
Setter
Camryn Johnson had five assists and four digs.
Llayne Skinner and
Maddy Suggs each had six digs to lead MUW. Griggs,
Amonie Silas and
Jadelyn Trice had The W's aces.
The W will look to stem its two-match losing skein and, at the same time, extract some revenge when it hosts Covenant College on Friday evening (6 p.m.) at Pohl Gym. Covenant swept The W, 3-0, in the season opener for both clubs back on September 1 in Lookout Mountain, Ga.
