BATESVILLE, Ark. – Despite staying close in the first half, the Mississippi University for Women men's soccer team fell to St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) leader Lyon College, 4-0, on the road. The loss dropped the Owls to 3-8-5 and 1-3-3 in the SLIAC, while the Scots improved to 8-4-1 and 5-1-1 in conference.
The combination of The W's inability to mount any offense and the aggressive Lyon attack, proved fatal to the Owls' chances. The Scots would not only out-shoot MUW – 15 to 1 – but did so with quality efforts, putting 13 of those attempts directly on goal.
The resulted in a busy afternoon for The W goalkeeper
Zach Seymour. Seymour played all 90 minutes in the nets and made nine saves. He allowed just one goal in the opening half – that coming just 2:12 into the match - before Lyon roared to life in the second with three tallies.
MUW's lone shot attempts was by
DJ McElroy and that occurring in the second half of action.
The Owls will not get much of a respite, as the team next travels to SLIAC's current runner-up, Fontbonne University, on Saturday (Oct. 21/1 p.m.) in St. Louis, Mo.
