ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Mississippi University for Women men's soccer suffered a 1-0 road loss at the hands Fontbonne University, the number two team in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC). The Owls' (3-9-5, 1-4-3 SLIAC) setback versus the Griffins (9-5-2, 6-1-0 SLIAC) was the team's second-straight versus the top two SLIAC squads (also falling to league-leader Lyon College on Thursday).
The W defense held the host Fontbonne unit at bay until a goal in the 65th minute proved to be the lone score of the match. That was in spite of out-shooting The W by a 23-5 margin, 13-2 on-goal. MUW goalkeeper
Zach Seymour booked 12 saves, his second-most in a match this season.
Cristian Canas led the Owls' attack with two shots, one on frame.
DJ McElroy also had a shot-on-goal for The W.
Tres Ray and
Kai VanCourt had the other shots for MUW.
The Owls will take a break from their SLIAC slate to host in-state rival Millsaps College next Tuesday (Oct. 25/5 p.m.) at the Roger Short Soccer Complex. The match will be the first of three-straight home bouts to close out the 2023 regular season for The W.
