COLUMBUS, Miss. - Mississippi University for Women men's soccer ran its unbeaten skein to two matches, after playing to a 1-1 draw with Eureka College in a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) match on Sunday, at the Roger Short Soccer Complex. The Owls are now 2-6-2 (1-1-1 SLIAC) and the Red Devils are 3-4-3 (1-0-1 SLIAC).
The match pitted two clubs that battled evenly all afternoon, as reflected in both the score and statistics. The W held a slim 12-1 advantage in total shot attempts, with EC having a 9-7 margin in shots-on-goal. The Owls had one more corner kick (4-3) and two more saves (8-6) than Eureka.
After a scoreless first half of action, the sides would each tally less than five minutes apart in the second stanza.
At the 64:16 juncture, it was the Owls'
Mo Diallo (Dublin, Ireland) finally breaking the drought with a nifty unassisted effort that made it 1-0. The goal tied Diallo for The W team lead at three.
But the Red Devils would rally back and burn MUW with a goal of its own at the 69:26 mark to knot matters at 1-1.
The Owls'
Zach Seymour (Gulfport, Miss.) and the rest of the MUW defense did a good job keeping Eureka at bay for the balance of the match. Seymour had five of his eight saves in the second half, alone.
Tres Ray (Poplarville, Miss.) led The W with three total shot attempts, two on-frame.
Cristian Canas (Houston, Texas),
Isaiah Vargas (Port St. Lucie, Fla.), and
Luis Morales (Memphis, Tenn.) each took two tries.
The Owls will take a respite from SLIAC action on Tuesday (Oct. 3/6:30 p.m.) to travel to regional-rival Belhaven University for a non-league tilt.
