GREENVILLE, Ill. – Mississippi University for Women volleyball began a string of nine-consecutive road games to close out the 2023 regular season by losing to St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) frontrunner Greenville University, 3-0. The Owls (4-16, 2-9 SLIAC) were topped by the Panthers (25-10, 25-15, 25-11) at Long Gymnasium.
The victory was Greenville's fifth-consecutive win. MUW saw its losing skein reach six.
The Panthers hit .287 for the match, holding The W in negative attack numbers (-.027). One of the Owls' strong suits, that of serving, was thwarted by GC by not allowing any aces by The W (while serving up four of its own).
MUW's offensive attack was also held in check.
Amonie Silas' four kills led the team, with
Llayne Skinner adding three kills.
Skinner had a team-high 12 digs. Libero
Madison Suggs made seven digs.
The setter tandem of
Camryn Johnson and
Hannah Duran each had five assists.
Jamya Fondren's three blocks topped The W in that category.
The Owls will look to return to the win column on Saturday (Oct. 21/1 p.m.) with a SLIAC bout at Eureka College.
