EUREKA, Ill. – Mississippi University for Women volleyball notched its second win of the season over St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe Eureka College on Saturday, 3-1. The Owls (5-16, 3-9 SLIAC) topped the Red Devils (3-17, 2-12) by set scored of 25-19, 24-26, 25-19, 25-20.
The W nearly swept EC. In set two, the Owls had set point at 24-23, but the host Red Devils would win three consecutive points to steal the set and extend the contest.
Amonie Silas had another big game for MUW on offense. Silas was the match co-leader with 12 kills, while sporting a .212 attack average. She also had six digs to her credit.
Llayne Skinner added nine kills and had a match-leading 39 attacks. Skinner had a good all-around effort, with a pair of aces, one block, and nine digs on her ledger, as well.
Madyson McBrayer led all players with a .357 attack average. McBrayer converted seven kills in 14 attempts, making just two errors.
Senior setter
Camryn Johnson dished off 16 assists. Johnson also served up a match-leading four aces, followed by teammate
Olivia Eubanks' three winners. In all, the Owls had 14 aces in the match.
Fellow setter
Hannah Duran had a double-double of 13 assists and 11 digs.
Defensively, senior libero
Madison Suggs had 18 digs in the back row.
Allison Carpenter chipped in nine digs, as well.
Next up for the Owls is a return trip to Illinois to face SLIAC leader Greenville University next Friday evening.
