ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Mississippi University for Women women's soccer will have to wait a bit to pop the Gatorade to celebrate a possible St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) post-season berth, after suffering a road loss to the league's second place team, Fontbonne University, 2-0. The Owls (5-8-0, 4-4-0 SLIAC) loss to the Griffins (6-7-1, 6-1-0 SLIAC) means that they will need to win their season finale at home versus Greenville next Saturday (Oct. 28), or any loss by Principia in one of its final two matches, to be a part of the 6-team SLIAC tournament.
Fontbonne did all of its damage in a span of 1:15 minutes early in the first half. The Griffins tallied at the 14:11 juncture and then again at 15:26, for all the scoring of the day.
MUW goalkeeper
Alex Moon had seven saves in her 90 minutes of work. FBU out-shot The W by 12-5 count, including 9-3 on goal.
Abby Warchus,
Kiersten Taylor, and
Olivia Deslatte each had a shot-on-goal for the Owls.
Gracie Francisco and
Mia Mauro had MUW's other two tries.
The W's regular season finale versus Greenville on Saturday, at the Roger Short Soccer Complex, is slated for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
