GREENVILLE, Ill. – Thanks to a quirky schedule, the Mississippi University for Women volleyball team spent its Friday evening taking on St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) leader Greenville University on its home floor for the second time in a week, with similar results in a 3-0 loss. The Owls (5-17, 3-10 SLIAC) lost to the Panthers (18-8, 13-1 SLIAC) by set scores of 25-10, 25-8, 25-11) at Long Gymnasium.
The W offense never seemed to get on track versus a strong defensive GU side, ending the evening with a negative attack average (while Greenville hit .293). MUW had 22 total attack errors, and managed 11 total kills for the night, with 17 of those miscues being unforced (the Panthers had five blocks).
Greenville rolled up 62 digs as a team to thwart many of MUW's attacks, as well.
Amonie Silas and
Haley Ridings each had three kills to top the team. Silas and Ridings had four and two assisted blocks, respectively.
Hannah Duran's six assists led the setters. In the back row, Maison Suggs registered 12 of her team's 41 digs.
The W will continue its weekend road trip with a pair of SLIAC games played at Webster University in St. Louis. The Owls face host Webster at 10 a.m., followed by a match versus Principia at 12 p.m.
