Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Owls’ volleyball splits SLIAC tri-match

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Mississippi University for Women volleyball split its pair of games on Saturday in a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) tri-match at Webster University. The Owls (6-18, 4-11 SLIAC) lost to host Webster, 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-13) and defeated Principia College, 3-1 (25-14, 23-25, 25-18, 25-13).

The split, however, keeps The W in contention for a spot in the six-team SLIAC post-season tournament, with a week left in the regular season. The Owls are deadlocked with Blackburn College, which MUW defeated in five sets earlier this year, but with a potentially all-important rematch looming on Saturday (Nov. 4) on the Beavers' home floor.

Versus Webster – currently second in the SLIAC standings – it was the tandem of Llayne Skinner and Amonie Silas leading the offense. Skinner had 11 kills and a .179 attack average, while Silas chipped in 10 kills.

Skinner had a team-leading 21 digs, as well. Senior libero Madison Suggs had 19 digs, with Allison Carpenter contributing 13 digs. Setter Hannah Duran had had a double-double of 16 digs and 12 assists.

In the match with Principia, the Owls' defense kept the Panthers in red numbers in attack average (a negative-.007). Conversely, MUW posted a .183 on the offense.

It was again the tandem of Silas and Skinner leading the attack, with 15 and 14 kills, respectively. Skinner made 11 digs versus PC, as well.

Suggs' 25 digs led the back row.  Suggs, Skinner, Bailee Schmitt, and Mackenzi Reed-Wood had two service aces, apiece.
