PARAGOULD, Ark. – Buoyed by its best attack average of the season, the Mississippi University for Women volleyball team swept past Crowley's Ridge College, 3-0, in the inaugural meeting between the teams. The Owls (7-18) topped the Pioneers (9-13) by set scores of 25-15, 25-23, 25-22, in winning their second-consecutive match.
As a team, The W hit for a .185 attack average, registering 39 total kills in 124 tries.
Amonie Silas and
Maggie Griggs led The W offense with nine kills each. Silas also hit for a tremendous .529 (no errors in 17 attempts) for the match. That's the highest attack average in a match this season by any Owls' player with two or more kills per set.
Zoe Hansen chipped in eight kills, with
Llayne Skinner booking five kills. Newcomer
Jamya Fondren had two kills and continued her emergence as a force at the nets, with a career-high six blocks (3 solo; 3 assisted).
Allison Carpenter and
Camryn Johnson each served up two aces. The duo also had nine and eight digs, respectively. Johnson led the Owls' setter corps with 12 assists, followed by 10 from
Hannah Duran.
Senior libero
Madison Suggs led the backrow players with 20 digs.
The W will continue its road trip and return to SLIAC action on Wednesday (Nov. 1) evening at Lyon College. First serve is slated for 6 p.m. in Batesville, Ark.
