FULTON, Mo. – Mississippi University for Women surrendered a goal to Westminster College in the waning seconds t fall, 1-0, in a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) contest. The Owls fell to 3-5-0 and 2-2-0 in the SLIAC, while the Blue Jays improved to 4-5-0 and 2-1-0 in league.
The loss also snapped a modest two-match win streak by MUW.
While The W was out-shot in the match by a 15-3 margin – 10-1 in shots on-goal – the scoreboard remained vacant. That is, until the final 82 seconds of the match, when the Jays tallied what would be to only goal of the night by either team.
That was the only blemish on what was an otherwise solid game by junior goalkeeper
Alex Moon. Moon made a total of nine saves, five in the second half and several of those within the last four minutes to keep The W close.
Mia Mauro had the Owls' only shot on frame and that coming in the second half.
Kiersten Taylor and
Katie Mills each had shots for the Owls.
Westminster held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks, as well.
MUW will look to return to its winning ways on Sunday (Oct. 8/1 p.m.) at Webster University in St. Louis, Mo.
