Owls Volleyball splits SLIAC tri-meet

FULTON, Mo. – Mississippi University for Women's volleyball team gained a split of its two St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) matches on Saturday, losing to host Westminster College, 3-0, before bouncing back to eradicate Eureka, 3-1, at historic Westminster Gym and Hank Iba Court. The Owls (4-10, 2-5 SLIAC) were defeated by the Blue Jays (10-9, 6-2 SLIAC), 25-22, 25-21, 25-19, and defeated the Red Devils (2-10, 1-6 SLIAC), 13-25, 25-17, 27-25, 25-19.
 
Westminster outhit The W by a .172 to .040 margin in the first match of the day.
 
Amonie Silas' 10 kills led the Owls.  Maggie Griggs added five kills, while Zoe Hansen, Llayne Skinner, and Haley Ridings chipped in three, apiece.
 
Selena Winston had a team-best three blocks, two solo, on her ledger. Setter Hannah Duran gave 13 assists, as well.
 
In the back row, senior libero Madison Suggs made 16 digs. Duran finished with 10 digs and Skinner nine.
 
Suggs, Ridings, and Karmen McCrory each had a pair of aces, to account for the bulk of MUW's winning serves.
 
In the Eureka win, Silas once again topped the team with nine kills, with Skinner adding seven. Madyson McBrayer tallied six kills n just two sets played McCrory had a team-best .375 attack average in eight attempts.
 
Camryn Johnson and Duran set up 12 and 11 assists, respectively. Meanwhile, Suggs' 21 digs and Skinner's 18 digs held down the Owls' back row efforts.
 
McCrory served up three aces, with Skinner adding two.
