Box Score LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga.- The weather played havoc with the Mississippi University for Women baseball doubleheader at Covenant College on Friday. In the first game, the Scots defeated the Owls, 14-4, with game two suspended by rain in the top of the fourth inning and The W leading, 3-1.
Â
The suspended game will be resumed on Saturday at 11 a.m. (CT) with the Owls still at bat with the bases loaded and two out. Once the suspended game – set for nine innings – is completed, the two teams will play Sunday's scheduled third game of the series.
Â
The W looked as though it was going to make game one a laugher, jumping ahead 4-1 after two innings. But the host Scots answered with two in the third, took the lead with a five-run fourth, and salted matters away with six in the fifth frame after the Owls' bats went quiet.
Â
Leadoff man
Tyler Estabrook was the only MUW batter to collect multiple hits. Estabrook went 2-for-3, with a double, a run scored, and a run batted in.
Â
No. 2-hole batter
Tanner Evans was 1-for-3 and drove in two runs. He scored a run, as well. Evans and Estabrook each stole a base.
Â
Designated hitter
Ethan Carrouth, firstbaseman
Jake Williams, and secondbaseman
Baker Watson all went 1-for-3 in the loss. Watson had a double as the Owls' only other extra-base hit.
Â
Starter
Campbell McCluney went 3.0 innings in absorbing the loss, but failed to retire a batter in the fourth. McCluney was charged with five runs, just three earned. He struck out three and walked three.
Â
Tyler Temple and
Zack Egan followed McCluney to the mound and suffered similar fates versus the CC bats. Temple closed out the fourth but couldn't get an out in the fifth and was charged with five earned runs. Egans permitted four earned runs in the fifth.
Â
Connor Reilly threw a clean sixth inning for MUW, striking out two Scots.
