Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Late goal sinks Owls women’s soccer in regular-season finale

COLUMBUS, Miss. – A goal in the 84th minute of play sent The W women's soccer down to a tough, 1-0, St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) home loss to Lyon College. The Owls fell to 4-11-2 (3-5-0 SLIAC), while the Scots upped their record to 4-9-2 (3-4-1 SLIAC) in the final match of the regular season.

While the loss may be disheartening – especially after such a strong effort by the Owls' back line of goalkeeper Alex Moon and defenders Andi Brabham, Anna McKee, and Haley Kelly – it did not affect the SLIAC tournament seedings.

The W was already locked into the No. 6 seed for Saturday's (Nov. 2) first round of the SLIAC championship tournament. MUW will travel to No. 3-seed Westminster College. Kickoff in Fulton, Missouri, is slated for 1 p.m.

Versus Lyon, the Owls were engaged in a scoreless battle until the Scots' tally at 83:37 minutes into the match. Up until that juncture, Moon had kept LC in check by recording all of her six saves in the match, prior to the goal.

The Scots held a 12-8 advantage in total shot attempts, 7-2 in shots on goal. Kate Blankenship and Kiersten Taylor each put a shot on-frame for The W. Taylor took three total attempts, while Blankenship had two tries.
