Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Taylor powers Owls Women’s soccer to second-consecutive win

EUREKA, Ill. – For the second time within a 30-hour span, Kiersten Taylor (Pearl River, La.) booked a multi-goal game to pace The W women's soccer team to a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) victory, this time by a 3-0 score at Eureka College. The Owls improved to 3-6-2 overall (2-1-0 SLIAC), while the Red Devils fell to 0-8-0 on the season (0-3-0 SLIAC).

Taylor had a pair of goals versus Eureka, tying her for the team lead (with Anacia Leyland) at four. Taylor also netted two goals in Thursday's blowout at Blackburn College, along with three assists. (The three assists gave her 12 for her MUW career, surpassing Lizzie Truelock's 11 for the top spot on the Owls' all-time list).

It was actually senior Haley Kelley (Diamondhead, Miss.) who gave MUW all it would prove to need versus Eureka. In the 32nd minute, Kelley netted her second goal in as many days, as well, to break open the scoreless deadlock.

With just 55 seconds remaining until halftime, Taylor padded the Owls' intermission advantage with her first goal of the evening to make it 2-0. Then, in the 69th minute, Taylor took a pass from Abby Warchus and found the back of the net for the 3-0 final.

The W defenders – buoyed by Avery Bartlett, Callie Abraham, Vanessa Murillo, and Andi Brabham – made certain the Red Devils' offense was exorcised to the tune of zero shot attempts taken. Behind goalkeeper Alex Moon, it marked The W's third shutout of the season, as well.

Conversely, MUW's offense unleashed a total of 25 shot tries, with 12 going on goal. Warchus had seven attempts, with five on frame. Taylor took five shots, scoring both times on goal.

The Owls will next host Rhodes College on Tuesday (Oct. 8/3 p.m.) for a non-conference bout at the Roger Short Soccer Complex.
