MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Mississippi University for Women baseball fell behind early and was never able to recover in a 13-8 non-conference, neutral site, loss to Edgewood (Wis.) College. The Owls fell to 5-3, while the Eagles improved to 2-2 in the game at Neal Posey Field.
Edgewood led 4-0 after three innings. In the visitor's half of the fourth, MUW'
Matthew Windham slapped a two-run double to right that cut the deficit in half.
But the Eagles put up four runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to put matters out of reach. The W did generate three in its half of the seventh, thanks to sacrifice flies from
Baron Brack and
Griffin Fuller that sandwiched an RBI single from
Avery Benson.
Brack went 2-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs.
Loren Cox and Windham each went 2-for-4 and scored twice.
Baker Watson went 1-for-3, drove in two and drew two walks.
Owls starter
Robby Canten went 2.0 innings, allowing four runs, to absorb the loss. Canten struck out two and walked two.
The W is slated to next play Middlebury College on Sunday (March 3/12 p.m.), also in Montgomery.
