LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - A combination of solid pitching and a 10-hit offense resulted in a 6-3 non-conference, neutral-site victory for Mississippi University for Women over Cornell (Iowa) College, played at Covenant College. The Owls improved to 6-3 overall, while the Rams dropped to 3-2 for the season.
MUW starter
Tyler Temple (2-0) went 6.0 innings to get the win, in his first start of the season. Temple permitted three runs, just two of which were earned. The senior scattered five hits - while striking out three CC batters - without issuing a walk.
Sophomore righty
Connor Reilly tossed 3.0 innings of scoreless relief, including working out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh to help The W preserve its lead. Reilly allowed just two harmless hits, struck out two Rams, and also did not walk a batter during his stint.
Six of MUW's 10 hits on the day came from its top three men in the batting order. Leadoff man
Matthew Windham was 3-for-5, with a pair of doubles and three runs scored. Windham, a sophomore, drove in two runs, as well.
