LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Mississippi University for Women baseball split a Saturday non-conference doubleheader at Covenant College. The Owls (7-4) lost the opening game, 14-4, to the Scots (5-9), before bouncing back to take game two, 13-3.
Game one starter
Loren Cox (0-3) allowed eight runs, just five earned, and five hits in 3.1 innings of work. Cox walked four and struck out four, as well.
An RBI single from
Baron Brack in the first and a
Cole Evans home run in the top of the second put MUW on top, 2-1. But three runs in the third and four more in the fourth by the Scots created separation that The W would not overcome.
Brack finished the game going 3-for-3, with a double and homer. Brack amassed three RBI and scored a run.
Matthew Windham and
Tyler Estabrook both went 2-for-3. Windham slapped a double and also scored once.
As lopsided as the first game was in favor of host Covenant, game two seemed to totally tilt toward the W. That was largely due to a great mound outing by
Landon Clark.
Clark (1-0) notched his first decision of 2024 with 6.0 strong innings of work. Clark struck out nine Scots and walked two. He scattered six hits and gave up a pair of earned runs.
The W offense clubbed two more home runs in the second game off the bats of Windham (2-4) and
Avery Benson (1-3). Brack (2-4) laced a double.
Zack Egan and
Baker Watson had the hot sticks, each going 3-for-5 from the plate. Egan scored three and drove in two, while Watson plated four RBI and scored once.
Jake Williams (2-3) and Estabrook (2-4) also had multi-hit games for the Owls. Estabrook had two RBI, as well.
