GREENVILLE, Ill. – Mississippi University for Women men's track and field placed sixth at the 2024 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships, held Friday and Saturday, April 26-27, at Greenville University. The Owls amassed 50 points, well behind champion Greenville's 333 points.
In all, MUW brought home a total of four medals: two silver and two bronze. Three school records were also set during the meet.
In the men's 110-meter high hurdles, Freshman
Allen Fields was the runner-up in a time of 16.71 seconds. Sophomore
Jourden Whitfield was second place in the javelin with a toss of 44.65 meters, also getting the Owls points with a eighth in the 400 meter run (51.96).
Freshman
Sinaj Lynn contributed in several events. Lynn was third in the triple jump at 12.62 meters, was fourth in the long jump with a school record leap of 6.53m, and seventh in the 400-meter hurdles in a clocking of 1:01.66 (also a school record).
The Owls' 4x400 relay quartet of
Tavonta Macon, Lynn,
Dedrick Gates, and Whitfield was third place in the event and demolished the school record. The quartet posted a time of 3:29.47 minutes 20 seconds better than the previous MUW record (3:50.85 in 2023).
Gates was also sixth in the long jump (6.35m). Thrower
Tanner Collins finished fourth in the shot put (12.17m) and was seventh in the men's discus (35.94m).
Additionally, Gates was selected to the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship team.
