Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Mississippi University for Women baseball could not hold its lead, losing a non-conference game at Rhodes College, 9-5. The Owls fell to 12-8, while the Lynx improved to 18-9.
The teams went back-and-forth through the first three frames. RC led, 3-2, going into the fifth. But The W outfielder
Johnny Setchfield would unload a three-run home run to right that put the Owls on top, 5-3.
The Lynx would even the contest in the home half of the fifth, adding single runs in the sixth and seventh, along with two in the eighth. The MUW offense did not score the rest of the way.
Setchfield finished his day 2-for-4 with the three RBI. He also had a double, scored twice, and walked once.
Sophomore leadoff man
Matthew Windham had the big day, going 3-for-6. Windham drove in a run and scored a run, as well.
Baker Watson was also 2-for-4 and drew a walk.
MUW starter
Robby Canten (1-2) took the loss. He threw 104 pitches through 6.0 innings, leaving the game after back-to-back walks to open the seventh, with five strikeouts to his credit.
Jackson Gantt threw the final 2.0 inning, striking out one Lynx batter.
MUW will host Eureka College in a three-game series this weekend, beginning with a doubleheader Friday (Apr. 5) at 3 p.m. and a single game Saturday (Apr. 6) at 10 a.m. at CCA Field.
