COLUMBUS, Miss. - The W men's soccer could not overcome a strong Piedmont University side in a 5-0 non-conference loss at the Roger Short Soccer Complex. The Owls fell to 0-2-0, while the Lions roared out to a 2-0-0 start to the season.
MUW found itself outshot by PU, 32-6, overall. The Lions put 14 of their shots on target, compared to two by The W.
The shot disparity resulted in nine saves by Owls' goalkeeper
Antonio Romero. Piedmont netted two saves.
Former New Hope High School product
Jared Ferraez, coming off the MUW bench, had both MUW shots on-goal. Ferraez went 2-for-2 in his shot attempts on frame. The other Owls' shot attempts came from
Ethan Barnes,
Trey Parnell,
Juan Puga, and
Kyle Morris.
The W played the Lions close the first half. Piedmont tallied in the 16th minute and held a slim 1-0 margin at the intermission.
MUW will look to notch its first win of 2024 when it travels to LaGrange College on Friday (September 6) for a 5 p.m. Central Time start in Georgia.
