Owls cut down by UST, 3-1

ALEXANDRIA, La. – In a non-conference, neutral-site contest, The W women's soccer suffered a 3-1 loss to the University of St. Thomas (Texas). The Owls fell to 1-5-1, while the Celts improved to 4-1-2, played at Louisiana State University-Alexandria.
 
MUW found itself down before most of the fans had even settled into their seats, with UST netting its first goal of the game just 23 seconds into the match. 
 
That score stood until the 23rd minute, when the Owls Anacia Leyland notched her first goal of the season to knot the match at 1-1. Anna McKee was credited with the assist.
 
The Celts would break the deadlock in the 42nd minute, to carry a 2-1 lead into the halftime locker room. After the two teams battled back-and-forth early in the second, UST tallied again in the 79th minute for the 3-1 final score.
 
The W was out-shot by the Celts for the afternoon, 27-6. The Owls put four of their attempts (.667) on frame, while UST had 13 shots on goal.
 
Leyland pt both of her shot attempts on frame. Kiersten Taylor and Kimi Norway each had shots on-goal, as well.
 
MUW goalkeeper Alex Moon was charged with al three UST goals. Moon finished the day with nine saves.
 
The Owls will play another non-league match on Tuesday (Sept. 24/5 p.m.) at Millsaps College.
