PARAGOULD, Ark. - It was a flipped script for The W volleyball in its 3-1 loss at Crowley's Ridge College in the return game of the home-and-home series on the road. The Pioneers (5-5) won by set scores of 25-21, 21-25, 25-15, 25-20 in avenging a similar 3-1 win by the Owls (2-8) in Columbus back on August 30 in the season opener.
The MUW team was playing shorthanded in the non-conference bout versus CRC this time, however. Leading attacker
MC Brown (3.37 kills per set) – who had 22 kills versus CRC in that first meeting - had to forego Monday's match in order to take a test in her nursing major. Brown is expected to rejoin the Owls when they return to St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Tuesday evening at Lyon College.
Minus Brown, The W had several players step in versus the Pioneers. Veteran
Amonie Silas notched nine kills and had three assisted blocks. Silas also had double-digit dig totals with 10.
Megan Neeb matched Silas' nine kills. Setter
Hannah Duran chipped in six kills, while
Jamya Fondren,
Madyson McBrayer, and
Avery Watts all knocked down five winners, apiece.
Duran turned in a double-double of 30 assists and 17 digs, tops on the Owls for both categories. Watts was tough up front with a match-leading five blocks.
Libero
Bailee Schmitt chipped in 16 digs and newcomer
Madison Kelly added 13.
