COLUMBUS, Miss. – The W men's soccer team snapped its three-match losing streak and, in the process, halted Greenville University's two-match St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) winning streak, by virtue of Saturday's 1-1 tie at the Roger Short Soccer Complex.
MUW gave a gritty effort as the Owls hung close to the Panthers (5-4-2, 2-0-1 SLIAC) the bulk of the first half, surrendering GU's lone tally of the match in the 45th minute (just 57 seconds before halftime) off starting goalkeeper
Cortland Earl, who had four first-half saves, as well.
The W came out of the break and finally knotted the bout at the 48:29-minute mark.
Dilyn Arnold connected on what was his first goal of 2025 to make it 1-1.
From that point on, it was up to MUW's defense and second-half goalie
Nick Gutierrez to preserve the draw. Gutierrez made a pair of saves on both of the Panthers' shots-on-goal in the final 45 minutes.
Overall, The W was outshot 23-6 for total attempts and 7-to-1 on frame.
Kyle Morris, the Owls' leading scorer, had two of his team's tries. Arnold also took two shots and had his team's lone on-goal attempt, as well.
The W will next be in action on Thursday (October 16/7:30 p.m.) at Webster University.
