Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Doggone good! Owls net first win versus Scotties, 3-1

COLUMBUS, Miss. -  After many efforts this season that produced the old "close-but-no-cigar" result, The W women's soccer finally had everything click in sync, with its, 3-1, non-conference win over Agnes Scott College, at the Roger Short Soccer Complex. The W improved to 1-12-2, while the Scotties fell to 5-9-2, overall.

"We've been building towards this all season with the work showing on the scoreboard tonight," MUW Head Coach Ana Ramos said. "The growth we've been seeing in practice finally translated to 90 minutes of play, as they fought for each other. We look forward to showing it again on Friday."

Wednesday evening's contest began like two boxers measuring each other up with jabs, but not producing any damage in a 0-0 tie at the half and much of the action taking place between the 20 yard lines.

The second half, however, was a different story, with the visiting ASC side opening the scoring in the 53rd minute. The Scotties held that advantage until the 71st minute.

At 70:42, Asia Glass sent a ball toward the face of the goal from the near end line, glancing off an ASC defender in the mix. MUW's Emma Hall immediately settled the ball and blasted it into the net to knot the match at 1-1.

That opened the floodgate for the Owls.

At 75:51, Agnes Scott was whistled for a foul just inside the box, resulting in a penalty kick for The W. Ella Mercier converted the PK that proved to be the deciding margin, putting MUW ahead, 2-1.

In the 87th minute, the host Owls added some insurance. Senior Kimi Norway attacked from the left side, creating a one-on-one with Scotties' netminder Olivia Rosario. Norway got Rosario on her heels and calmly slid the ball past her to make it the final 3-1 tally.

The W outshot ASC by a 9-to-4 count, with five shots on-goal. All four of the Scotties tries were on frame, with Owls' goalkeeper Cam Lopez making three saves.

MUW will return to SLIAC play on Friday (October 24/1 p.m.) versus Blackburn College at the Short Soccer Complex.
