Asia Glass' goal in the 89th minute of play allowed The W women's soccer to eek out a 1-1 non-conference draw at Berea College on Sunday afternoon. The Owls are now 0-9-2, while the Mountaineers are 6-4-1.
Glass' first goal of the season came at 88:49 minutes of the match and her team down, 1-0, in the waning moments. After a throw in from
Ella Mercier on the far sideline, Glass took the ball and deftly maneuvered past two Berea defenders and sent the ball inside the far post to knot the contest at 1-1.
MUW came within a whisker of gaining its first win of the season, were it not for a fluke play in the 34th minute. The Mountaineers were on an attack and Owls' goalkeeper
Cam Lopez came out of the box to clear the ball. But Lopez's boot was instead settled by BC's Danitza Roldan, who simply chipped the ball over Lopez and nto the unattended goal to give Berea the 1-0 lead.
Lopez came back to turn in seven saves of Berea attempts. The Mountaineers had 14 tries, eight on frame, compared to four from MUW with two on-goal.
The W will return to SLIAC action at home next Saturday versus Greenville University. Kickoff at the Roger Short Soccer Complex is set for 12 p.m.
