Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball has two fast starts, but can’t finish in SLIAC losses

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The W volleyball played to very similar matches, resulting in a pair of St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) setbacks, in a tri-match at Lyon College. Versus both Greenville University and host Lyon, the Owls (4-12, 2-5 SLIAC) won the first set, then lost close second and third sets, before also dropping the fourth by identical 3-1 scores.

Against SLIAC leader Greenville, the Owls took set one, 25-21. But MUW would lose the next three by scores of 26-24, 25-19, 25-13 to the Panthers.

Megan Neeb and Skye Letson co-lead the Owls with 15 kills, each. Neeb had seven digs, as well, while Letson had four assisted blocks.

Avery Watts and Sydney Barrett each had four blocks, as well. Barrett also chipped in seven kills.

Brooklyn Comfort's 22 digs topped the back row players. Setter Kinsley Kennedy had a double-double of 12 digs and 37 assists.

In its second match against Lyon, MUW took set on by a 25-23 score. However, the Scots would reel off three straight set wins by scores of 25-23, 25-23, 25-15 to take the match.

And once again it was Letson and Neeb pacing the offense. The duo had 16 and 13 kills, respectively, to account for 29 of the Owls' 41 kills as a team.

Comfort's 21 digs and Kennedy's 36 assists topped MUW in those categories. Barrett had a match-leading five blocks (2 solo, 3 assisted).

The W will return to Pohl Gym on Monday (Oct. 6/5 p.m.) for a non-conference match versus Crowley's Ridge College.
