COLUMBUS, Miss. –
Skye Letson knocked down a match-leading 15 kills to lead The W volleyball's 3-0 sweep of non-conference foe Crowley's Ridge College at Pohl Gym. The victory by the Owls (5-12) over the Pioneers (7-14) snapped a three-match skid on the team's annual Dig Pink game for breast cancer awareness, with set scores of 25-22, 25-21, 25-23.
Letson, a junior transfer, was the lone player from either side in double-digit kills. Letson not only hit for numbers, but for quality, as well, with a match-best .375 attack average (3 errors in 32 attempts). She also had three total blocks; two solo and one assisted.
Sophomore
Megan Neeb added eight kills and five digs. Neeb was also strong on serve receiving, making just one error in 13 receptions (.929).
Sydney Barrett matched Leton with three blocks, while also registering five kills of her own. Libero
Brooklyn Comfort topped the back row with 18 digs and was perfect in serve receptions on her 23 tries.
Junior setter
Kinsley Kennedy rolled up 31 assists, thanks in large part to her former JUCO teammate Letson's big kills total. Kennedy also made eight digs.
" I'm proud of how gritty the team played tonight" MUW Head Coach
Breylee Linder said. "It was a tough match, and they found ways to compete and pull out a win."
The W will try to keep its momentum going when it resumes St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday (Oct. 11), hosting a tri-match versus Westminster College (10 a.m.) and Lyon College (2 p.m.) at Pohl Gym.
