Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

The W volleyball tamed by Tigers on the road, 3-1

SEWANEE, Tenn. -  The W volleyball lost a non-conference road match at Sewanee: The University of the South, 3-1 (25-17, 24-26, 25-21, 25-16), on Friday evening. The Owls are now 10-18, overall, and the Tigers improved to 16-10.

MUW fought gamely for the first three sets, playing Sewanee close. Especially in the second and third sets, the Owls had late runs to close the gap and, in some cases, take the lead. But those skirmishes took their toll on the visitors, as the Tigers waltzed through the fourth set to secure the win.

Skye Letson had a match-leading 14 kills, her 19th match (out of 28 played) with double-digit kill totals this season. Letson also hit for average versus Sewanee, with a team-best .306 attack average to her credit. On the defensive side of the net, Letson had a match-best five total blocks, two of the solo variety.

MUW's former New Hope High School tandem of Madyson McBrayer and Megan Neeb each had double figures in kills, as well, with 12 and 11, respectively.

Three players in double figures for kills was the good news for The W Head Coach Breylee Linder. The bad news, however, was that only two other members of her roster managed to register a kill in the match. Conversely, the Tigers saw no less than 11 of their players book a kill in the contest.

Freshman Sydney Barrett contributed five kills and four blocks. Senior Jamya Fondren added three assisted blocks.

Setter Kinsley Kennedy had 36 of her team's 41 assists for the afternoon. Sophomore libero Brooklyn Comfort chipped in 20 digs and four assists.

The W will make the short trip over to Lookout Mountain, Georgia, to close out the regular season on Saturday with a pair of matches. The Owls face Maryville University at 1 p.m. (CT) and host Covenant College at 4 p.m. (CT).
