Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Owls men lose 2OT thriller at Eureka, 82-78

EUREKA, Ill. – The W men's basketball came out on the short end of a double-overtime, St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC), loss at Eureka College, 82-78. It marked the second time that the Owls (12-11, 9-7 SLIAC) and Red Devils (7-16, 6-10 SLIAC) played extended games this season, also going OT in a 75-67 MUW win in Columbus on January 18.

Despite the setback, the Owls locked down no worse than the No. 4 seed for the upcoming SLIAC post-season tournament.

With three ties and seven lead changes, overall, it was the Owls with a big second-half surge to force overtime Saturday at EC. With 9:47 left in regulation, MUW found itself down by 14 points (57-43). A 25-11 run by The W to close regulation was capped by Chris Evans' layup with 28 seconds left that made it 68-68.

Each team tallied just three points in the first overtime segment and had plenty of "what if" moments. For MUW, it was going 1-for-3 on free throws and 1-of-5 from the field. Eureka was 1-of-8 from the charity stripe, as the teams went to the second OT knotted at 71-71.

EC would outscore the Owls 11-7 in the second overtime to secure the win.

Senior Dariun Doss led MUW with 20 points. Doss hit 6-of-11 from the field and 8-of-10 free throws. He also had six rebounds before fouling out.

Jackson Reid was 6-of-16 from the floor – including a pair of threes – on his way to a 17-point day. Reid also had six boards to his credit.

James Dukes registered eight points, as well as team-leading total of eight rebounds, and three assists. Cam Smith and Bass Jr. each contributed seven points. Trent Walker added seven caroms and five points.

The W will next host Greenville University on Thursday (Feb. 20/7:30 p.m.) at Pohl Gym.
