BELLEVILLE, Ill. – The W women's basketball has had two of its players – senior
Conley Langford (Calhoun City, Miss.) and junior
Calysia Phillips (Clarksdale, Miss.) – recognized on the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) post-season awards list, it has been announced. Langford and Phillips were both elected to All-SLIAC second team honors for their 2024-25 efforts.
For Langford, it marked the second time, in as many season as a SLIAC member, that the guard has been honored (also earning first team all-SLIAC accolades in 2023-24). In 2024-25, Langford was instrumental as the Owls implemented a new system under first-year head coach Eric Vaughn. She averaged 15.9 points and 5.0 rebounds per game for MUW's 25 contests, hitting double-digit scoring in 21 of hr 25 games played. In addition to shooting nearly 40 percent (125-315) from the field, Langford topped The W with 59 three-point baskets made, while contributing 2.24 steals per game on the defensive end.
Additionally, Langford was selected to the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship Tram, as well.
Phillips, a transfer into the program this season, was well on the way to establishing herself as one of the SLIAC's premier players, before a leg injury ended her season on January 30. He averages for her 18 games played were still head-and-shoulders above many – 17.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 3.6 steals, and 2.0 3FG made – prompting the league's coaches to select her, despite missing the last seven games of the campaign.
From Vaughn's perspective, the honors for The W duo are well-deserved.
"Conley - who was a first team all-conference player last year - is so special as a person because she had no problem with Phillips coming in and being our number-one option," Vaughn explained. "It's not many players who would have done that. They had such great chemistry on and off the floor. It's obvious how important Phillips was to our team in the fact that she didn't play the last seven games of the season; you can look at our scores to see how much she was missed. I believe if Phillips doesn't get hurt we make our conference tournament. Phillips is a quiet leader on and off the court.
"Both young ladies are very deserving of this honor. They are, arguably, the best 1-2 punch in the conference."
