ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Senior
Claire Leak had what was, arguably, her best all-around game of the season to lead her team to a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) win at Fontbonne University. The victory by the Owls (6-14, 5-8 SLIAC) over the Griffins (2-16, 2-11 SLIAC) was much needed, snapping a two-game skid by MUW.
Leak went for 20 points to pace the Owls' squad. Leak hit 7-of-11 from the floor, overall, and buried a game-best 6-for-10 from beyond the arc. She grabbed seven rebounds and dished off five assists.
The W led at the half, 40-34, and extended that to a 65-54 margin through three periods. MUW led by 19 points with 5:14 left in the fourth, before Fontbonne was able to slice into the deficit versus The W's reserves in the waning minutes.
Conley Langford added 18 points to MUW's cause, connecting on 7-of-10 shots from the floor. Langford was 4-for-7 from long distance and also hauled in five rebounds.
TK Jones – making the start in the absence of injured leading scorer Calysia Philips – tallied 14 points. Jones matched Leak with five assists.
