5 Owls earn All-SLIAC honors for baseball

BELLEVILLE, Ill. -  The W Baseball has earned five spots on the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) all-conference selections, it has been announced. Picked for the first team were Landon Clark (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) and Zach Johnson (Birmingham, Ala.), while Avery Benson (Hatley, Miss.), Baron Brack (Pike Road, Ala.), and Campbell McCluney (Chelsea, Ala.) were all second team honorees.

Clark, a senior utility player, was a repeat performer as a first team selection for the SLIAC's No. 2-seeded MUW squad, twice earning the SLIAC's Pitcher of the Week award. On the mound, Clark led the Owls in most categories, with a 3.53 earned run average, 58.2 innings pitched, a 6-2 record, and 63 strikeouts (to 20 walks). Opponents had a .239 batting average against him.

With the bat, Clark posted a .377 batting average (43-114), with 16 extra-base hits (9 doubles, 3 triples, and 4 home runs), to go along with his .614 slugging percentage and .507 on-base average. He walked a team-high 26 times, scored 37 runs, and drove in 25. He was 11-for-14 in stolen bases, as well.

Johnson, a junior first baseman, burst onto the SLIAC scene in 2025 to earn a Hitter of the Week award, as well as being recognized twice nationally on D3Baseball.com's Team of the Week. Johnson leads MUW in virtually all offensive categories, batting average (.399), hits (59), at-bats (148), doubles (14), triples (4), home runs (8), RBI (47), and slugging percentage (.709).

Benson, a senior catcher, is The W's career home run leader with 22. In 2025, Benson slashed .390/.590/.544, with 5 doubles and 5 homers among his 39 hits (in 100 ABs). Benson drew 25 walks and was hit 10 times, while scoring 25 runs. He threw out 12 runners (out of 50) attempting to steal on him.

Brack, a senior outfielder, is also a repeater on the all-SLIAC list (earning third-team honors in 2024). Brack hit a healthy .323 (40-124), scoring 25 runs and driving in 28. Brack led The W with four sacrifice flies, while also going 4-for-4 in steals.

McCluney, a junior right-handed pitcher, had a breakout season in 2025. 14 of 16 appearances came in relief, amassing 41.2 innings pitched. McCluney was a perfect 5-0, with one save, to go with his 4.32 ERA. He had 25 strikeouts to 17 walks.

Additionally, senior pitcher Jackson Gantt (Tallassee, Ala.) was named to the SLIAC's All-Sportsmanship Team. Gantt had a 1-0 record in seven relief appearances in 2025. He threw 14.0 innings.
