ABITA SPRINGS, La. - The W assistant golf coach
Scott Milam used a late surge to win the 2025 Gulf States Assistant PGA Professional Championship on August 11-12, contested at the Money Hill Golf & Country Club. Milam is in his fourth season as a member of Owls' head coach
Benji Williams' staff, where he works with both the men's and women's teams.
The field included 44 PGA Assistant Professionals and Associates, a new record total for the event.
Milam claimed the Assistant PGA Professional Championship honors with a score of 67-66 = 133. During the final round, a 5-under front nine propelled Milam into the solo lead heading to the back. But Grayson Glorioso of Bayou Oaks Golf Course gave Milam all he had on the back nine, making birdie on holes 10,11,12, and 17 on his way to tying Milam at -11 heading to the 18th.
But a bogey 5 on the 18th knocked Gloroso out of contention, while Milam calmly drained his par putt to earn the title.
"I am very thankful to be working at The W," Milam said. "I appreciate (MUW) giving me the opportunity to join the PGA association to help further my professional, as well as playing career, along with representing MUW and the standards we strive for as an organization and program."
Milam has played a key role in the growth of the Owls' golf programs during his tenure. The W men have won back-to-back St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships, as well as having also made two consecutive trips to the NCAA Division III national championships.
