COLUMBUS, Miss. – The W men's soccer won its second-consecutive match – and produced its first shutout of 2025 – with its non-conference, 6-0, home victory over Oakwood University at the Roger Short Soccer Complex. The win improved the Owls' record to 3-5, while the Ambassadors fell to 0-3.
For MUW, it was also the fifth-consecutive win in its series versus OU and third-straight shutout pitched at the Ambassadors by The W. The Owls own a 7-1-1 record, all time, versus Oakwood.
The match was by far The W's most dominating performance of the season, tallying three goals in each half. The Owls out-shot the Ambassadors by a 26-to-5 margin (17-2 on goal).
The W came out revved up on offense, but had to idle down a bit after six offside calls within the first 21 minutes of the match. But once the Owls started scoring, the goals kept coming. MUW's first tally of the evening finally came about in the 26th minute on a penalty kick goal by
Preston Holmes.
Kyle Morris would notch the first of his two goals in the 31st minute. In the 40th minute,
Jordan Ware punched in another score that gave MUW the 3-0 halftime cushion.
10 minutes into the second stanza, Morris second goal of the evening put the Owls up, 4-0. Four of Morris' six total shot attempts went on frame. It was Morris' team-leading 10th goal of 2025.
Trey Parnell and
Juan Puga added goals in the 81st and 85th minutes for the 6-0 final.
MUW goalkeeper
Nick Gutierrez had two saves in gaining his first college shutout, as well.
The win gives The W a full head of steam heading into Saturday's (September 27/2:30 p.m.) St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener at the Short Soccer Complex.
