Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s soccer edged once again, 1-0, at LaGrange

LaGRANGE, Ga. – If the old saying "close, but no cigar" holds true, then The W women's soccer team will not be firing up a Stogie once again, dropping a tight, non-conference, road match at LaGrange College, 1-0. It marked the third time that the Owls (0-4-0) have lost a contest by a single goal in the early part of the 2025 season.

Although undoubtedly frustrating, the MUW defense continued to do a commendable job in keeping the team in the match. Despite being out-shot by the Panthers (1-2-1) by a 22-4 margin – and 10-1 for shots-on-goal – The W remained in striking distance until the final horn.

Credit Owls' goalkeeper Cam Lopez, who booked nine saves, six in the first half alone, versus LaGrange. Playing every minute in the MUW nets, thus far, Lopez has a saves percentage of 80 percent and a 1.75 goals against average.

Owls' newcomer Ella Mercier had two of MUW's shot attempts, including a chance at the equalizer. With the host Panthers scoring in the 51st minute, Mercier had a try on frame at the 58:49 minute mark, but was denied by LC netminder Carsen Makuch.

The W will next travel to Huntingdon College on Wednesday (September 10/4:30 p.m.) for another non-league match in Montgomery, Alabama.
