COLUMBUS, Miss. – Fresh off of St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) wins over Lyon College on Saturday, both the women's and men's basketball programs from The W were honored with the SLIAC Player of the Week accolades in their respective divisions (for games between December 21-January 4). Recognized for the Owls' women's team was
Mia Bowen (Buena Vista, Miss.), along with
Tray Huguley (Saks, Ala.) from the men's squad.
Bowen, a senior transfer to MUW from NCAA Division I Arkansas-Little Rock, had what was, arguably, her best effort as an Owl with season – and career – highs of 32 points and 15 rebounds, helping to hand the Scots their first SLIAC loss of the year (68-65). Bowen hit 11-of-25 from the field and was 10-of-12 from the free throw line.
For Bowen, it was her fifth double-double of the season and 12th-consecutive double-digit scoring game (and giving her three straight games with 20-plus points). Bowen, who ranks third in NCAA III for blocks, added two rejections to her season total versus the Scots, giving her 42 on the year.
Huguley, had another huge game in knocking the Lyon men from atop the league standings with its first SLIAC setback as well, 78-75. The sophomore-transfer Huguley had his sixth double-double in 10 games played, by scoring 20 points and grabbing a game-leading 11 rebounds. Huguley was 6-for-15 from the field, while also making four steals and blocking two shots.
Huguley hit double-figure scoring for the tenth time in as many games played with The W. He has six games with 20-plus points scored, including a school-record 51 versus Greenville on December 6.
Huguley also set the MUW single-game rebounds record by snagging 20 caroms on December 20 versus Texas Lutheran University, at the Rhodes College Invitational in Memphis, Tennessee.
