COLUMBUS, Miss. - The W men's soccer team flipped the script on Huntingdon College on Tuesday evening in a 2-2 draw at the Roger Short Soccer Complex. Less than two weeks ago, in the first meeting of the year between the teams in Montgomery, Alabama, the Owls (0-9-1) were soundly defeated by the Hawks (1-5-6).
But in the rematch, MUW's roster finally began to see the benefits of its labors, as the newcomers and veterans clicked to snap the Owls' nine-match losing skein to open 2026 by forging the draw.
HC would start off the scoring in the 32nd minute, and hold the 1-0 lead until halftime. But in the second 45 minutes, the Owls offense hit.
In the 57th minute,
Luis Correa scored his first goal of the season to knot the match, 1-1.
Chris Lopez-Hernandez assisted on the goal.
Then, in the 69th minute, The W actually took the lead.
Joao Pais set up a free kick from just inside the righthand corner flag. Pais sent the ball in the mix, where
Simon Roth directed it to the back of the Hawks' net for his team-leading third goal of 2026, and making it 2-1 in favor of MUW.
Huntingdon tied things up in the 72nd minute, leading to the 2-2 draw.
In goal,
Kenneth Starr shined for MUW. Starr had six saves in his 90 minutes of work, making just his second start of the year.
