The SLIAC honors cover the period of February 8-15, 2026.
For softball, Owen and Garvin helped MUW to a 4-0 week at its own The W Invitational. Owen (Pontotoc, Miss.) – a junior transfer from Northwest Mississippi Community College - had multiple-hit games in all four contests, going 9-for-14 at the plate (a .643 average) and had zero strikeouts. She drove in five runs and scored four more. Owen, a second baseman, was errorless in 17 total chances, while also going 2-for-2 in steal attempts.
Garvin (Olive Branch, Miss.), a freshman right-handed pitcher, made her collegiate debut with a 0.00 earned run average for her two appearances. Garvin threw 7.1 innings. In her first college outing on Friday versus Covenant, she had 1.2 innings of scoreless relief to earn the save. On Saturday, she got the start versus Sewanee, scattering seven hits over 5.2 innings and permitting just one unearned run in a no-decision (which the Owls eventually won in nine innings). She also went 1-for-3 at the plate, with a walk, versus Sewanee.
The baseball duo of Marshall and McCluney helped the Owls to a 2-1 season start at the Huntingdon Tournament. Marshall (Moody, Ala) – a junior transfer from Calhoun C.C. – had a great debut with The W program, batting .556 (5-9) and a .714 on-base average. He drew a pair of walks, was hit by a pitch twice, and scored three runs. With the leather, he was errorless in eight chances at second base.
McCluney got the opening game nod - and victory - on the mound, delivering an early-season gem for MUW. The senior righty from Chelsea, Ala., went 6.0 innings versus perennial NCAA III power North Carolina Wesleyan University, allowing just two hits and two runs. McCluney struck out 11 Bishops, the second-most Ks in a single game by an Owls' pitcher in the program's nine-year history. NCWU batted a paltry .111 against McCluney.
At the Samford University Bulldog Open on Saturday, the sophomore McCollum (Winfield, Ala.) launched the fifth-best effort in the women's shot put for the SLIAC this season. McCollum's toss was 10.18 meters, in the Owls' final tune-up for the SLIAC indoor championship meet on Feb. 27-28, in Elsah, Illinois.
