Soccer Ties Huntingdon 1-1 in Season Opener

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Owls men's soccer team proved it came to play after forcing two periods of overtime in the 1-1 season opener against Huntingdon College.

In their first match, the Owls delivered 13 shots with eight shots on goal while allowing 25 shots with 10 on goal.

After falling behind 0-1 in the first half, Courtland Moore of Olive Branch, Miss. scored the Owls first goal of the season (assist from Jacob Johnson) to stave a Hawks victory.

Jonathan Lopez and Johnson provided additional support for the Owls offense recording two shots on goal and two shots with one shot on goal respectively.

On the defensive side of the ball, John McGee, freshman goal keeper, played the entire 110 minutes to keep the Owls in the game. The Troy, Ill. native recorded nine saves with one goal allowed to be one of the driving forces behind the Owls defense.

"We played really well," said head coach Tim Gould. "Everyone competed. Anytime you're down a goal at the half, you put in the effort to tie the game, and then have the opportunity to win the game in regulation or in overtime you're happy with everyone. The effort and enthusiasm was tremendous."

The Owls will get back on the road tomorrow when they travel to LaGrange College 5 p.m. EDT at the Panther Soccer Complex.
