COLUMBUS, Miss. - The W men's soccer team closed out the 2026 season by playing to a 1-1 draw at home in a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) bout versus Lyon College. The Owls finished the campaign at 1-14-2 (0-7-1 SLIAC), while the Scots are 6-5-5 (3-2-3 SLIAC) and the No. 5 seed for the upcoming SLIAC tournament.
MUW nearly pulled off the complete upset, leading the contest for the bulk of the time before surrendering a late goal. Freshman midfielder
Sebastian Araya put The W on top just 5:13 minutes into the match. Araya headed in a beautiful corner kick from Luis Carrea, from the right of goal, to make it 1-0 in favor of the Owls.
From that point on, it fell upon the Owls' defenders – led by
Jordan Ware, playing his final collegiate match – to keep the Scots at bay.
MUW freshman goalkeeper
Kenneth Starr, making just his sixth start of the season, gave a solid effort as well. Starr had six saves versus a blistering Lyon attack that took 22 total shots.
The only ball that found the back of the net for the Scots didn't come until the 87th minute, resulting in the 1-1 draw.
