PULASKI, Tenn. – The Mississippi University for Women volleyball team had a good start against the 9-3 Methodist Martin College on Tuesday, Sept. 19. The Owls (2-11) put up a great offense early in the match but struggled to keep the momentum going. The W fell 3-0 (20-25, 14-25, 9-25) to the Red Hawks.
"We started out very strong in the first set, but some crucial errors ended up getting the best of us," said head coach Roxanne Hernandez about tonight's game. "Martin Methodist played to the advantage of their home crowd hype and we played out of system for most of the match which resulted in a loss tonight."
Haley McMurphey, sophomore outside hitter, led the Owls offense with five kills on 16 total attacks. Sadie Mitchell, freshman libero, led the team with five digs and Tori Weir led the team in blocks with two solo blocks. As setter, Madison Lamon tallied eight assist.
The Owls will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 22 – Saturday, Sept. 23 when they host this season's Owls Invitational. During the two-day tournament, The W will face Southern Union Community College, Southwestern Adventist University, and Bevill State Community College.
