Soccer Scores First Victory at Oakwood, 4-1

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Owls men's soccer team recorded their first victory its program history on Friday, Sept 29 when The W defeated Oakwood University 4-1.

MUW started off slow in the first half of the game, allowing the Ambassadors to score one goal against them. The Owls entered the second half down, 1-0.

After halftime, the Owls refocused and came back strong, scoring four goals in the second half.

"We came out flat today and were outworked by Oakwood during the first half," stated head coach Tim Gould. "In the second half, we showed much more energy and a willingness to attack wide which resulting in our four second half goals. It was great for us to earn our first win as a program, especially on where we had a second had a second half comeback."

Jonathan Lopez, Paxton Bounds, and Josh Martin each scored a goal for the Owls. In the 80th minute, the Ambassadors knocked the ball into their own goal to give The W its fourth score of the match.

In front of the goal, John McGee was on goalkeeper duties. The Troy, Ill. native tallied seven saves to keep MUW ahead of Oakwood.

The Owls will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 1 when they host Itawamba Community College. Kick-off is set for 2 p.m.
