Owls Face Tough Home Game Against Huntingdon

COLUMBUS, Miss. – Looking to remain on top of the USCAA coach's poll, the No. 1 Owls women's basketball team will host Huntingdon College on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. CT inside Emma 'Ody' Pohl Gymnasium.

The W (11-4) started the second half of the season with a decisive victory over Wesleyan College in a 96-31 win over the Wolves inside Porter Gymnasium. The Owls led by 46 toward the end of the third quarter and kept the momentum going to outscore Wesleyan 25-6 in the fourth. The Owls shot 51.2 percent from the field in the game steadied by 19 points from Tenazhia Hinkson and 17 points by Qiayon Bailey. Starlandria Walton and Keyahna Jones were also responsible for double-digit points with 15 and 12 points respectively.

Bailey has led the Owls efforts on the court averaging 13.1 points per game, 7.9 rebounds, 0.5 assists, and 1.0 steals. Jones, junior center, has tallied five double-doubles this season and averages 8.1 points per game and 9.5 rebounds.

As a team, the Owls average 71.9 points per game, 46.7 rebounds, and 10.7 assists. The W currently shoots 42.7 percent from the field, 24.7 percent in three-point range, and 56.2 percent at the line.

Huntingdon enters Tuesday's game with a 12-4 record and is coming off a strong weekend showing Sunday with a 70-46 win at Agnes Scott College. Three of the Hawks losses were against their USA South Conference rivals Berea College, Piedmont College, and Maryville University with an additional stumble versus Pensacola Christian College. Huntingdon is 5-0 on the road, 0-1 at a neutral site, and 3-3 in Montgomery.

As a team, Huntingdon is averaging 71.5 points per game and allowing just 58.3. The Hawks are hitting 41.0 percent from the field this season, including 31.3 in long range. Huntingdon averages 41.3 rebounds per game and 15.3 assists.

This is the second time these two teams have faced off this season. In December, the Owls fell 92-78 at Huntingdon. The W looks to give the Hawks their first road loss on Tuesday inside of Pohl Gym. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
