Box Score COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls dropped the match 4-1 to the Blazers of Belhaven University on Thursday, September 19. The W was unable to prevent the Blazers from scoring, ending the first half 2-0. The Owls grabbed a late goal just moments into the second half against the Blazers, bringing the score to 2-1.
During the first half, the Owls played extremely hard and caused a slight delay in the Blazers second goal. After half time, The W was unable to keep up the momentum going allowing two goals in the second ending the game, 4-1.
Junior midfielder Brayan Resendiz scored the lone goal for the Owls in Thursday's match-up. The Horn Lake, Miss. native constantly worked his way around Belhaven's defenders to spot an opening. After several attempts, he was able to successfully put the Owls on the board.
Despite having only one goal in the outing, the Owls played hard against the NCAA DIII opponent. Jacob Thomas and Resendiz led the effort with three shots on goal each while Andres Martinez was credit with one shot on goal during the match.
Defensively, junior goalkeeper Selvin Lopez guarded the Owls goal during the entire match. The Memphis, Tenn. native prevented three goals while allowing four.
The Owls will be back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 24 when they take on Birmingham Southern. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m at the Columbus Soccer Complex.
