Box Score KEENE, Texas – For the second-straight road contest, The W men's soccer team posted a shutout, this time blanking Southwestern Adventist University, 4-0. The win evened the Owls' record at 4-4 for the season.
MUW out-shot the host Warriors by a margin of 11-3. The W put seven shots directly on frame, posting two goals in each half.
Freshman
Vini Lopes got the Owls scoring started in the 8th minute. Lopes took possession in front of The W's bench in the defensive midfield, carried the ball coast-to-coast and created a one-on-one with the Warriors' goalie. Lopes sent the ball inside the far post to make it 1-0.
It was Lopes' team-leading 11th goal of the year.
In the 37th minute,
Paulo Carneiro made a steal in the attacking third. He drilled the ball into the net to make it 2-0. That score stood through the half.
The W kept the pressure on in the second half. In the 65th minute, Kai Van Court found a rebound and put a header to the back of the net to up the Owls' cushion to 3-0.
Then, in the 72nd minute,
Pedro Santana took a ball from Lopes and made it the final 4-0 score. It was Santana's second goal of 2021.
The W goalkeeper
David McCutchen had both of his saves in the first half. The Owls played the vast majority of the second segment in the Warriors' end of the pitch.
The W and Southwestern Adventist will face each other again on Monday afternoon, with a 5 p.m. kickoff in Keene.
